Weekend Homework May 30th - June 1st

Weekend homework:

1. 15 minutes of reading everyday
2. Complete your Plate Tectonics research
3. Weekly creative writing assignment
4. Rough draft of your Performance Day speech

Speech outline:
You are going to give a speech on our Performance Day to encourage other students who will be at G.A.D. next year.  Here are some ideas to talk about during your speech:
·    -   Talk about great memories from this past year
·    -     Talk about the positive aspects of learning at G.A.D.
·    -   Talk about some life lessons you have learned this year (how to be successful in school, how to make            friends, how to get all of your homework done, how to express yourself, etc...)
·     - Something to make them excited about growing up or going to the next grade
      - Thank you messages to parents, teachers, school staff, principals, other students

Homework Thursday, May 29th, 2014

Tonight's homework:

1. We already read for 30 minutes during our novel study, but I encourage you to read more :)
2. Make sure you have finished last night's math homework (7.4 hardcover questions 1,4,5,6)
3. Your comic needs to be completed with ink (fine liner or black pen) and handed in tomorrow
4. Continue the Plate Tectonics research we started in class today.  You need to have 2 pieces of evidence researched for tomorrow.

Reminders:
Your Sports Day lunch and parent volunteer forms are due tomorrow.
There will be a $1 freezie sale tomorrow at lunch.

Tonight's homework:

1. You have already read for 30 minutes today, but I encourage you to read some more :)
2. Math 7.4 softcover (if you did not finish it in class), and hardcover questions 1,4,5,6
3. Your good pencil copy of your comic should be finished tonight.  You will hand in the completed, inked copy on Friday.

Reminders:

The Sports Day lunch order form is due Friday, even if you are not ordering Subway.
There will be a $1 freezie sale on Friday at lunch.

Weekend Homework May 23-26

Weekend Homework:

1. 15 minutes of reading everyday
2. Komagata Maru questions (see yesterday's post)
3. Weekly creative writing assignment
4. Earth layers model: use pages 119-120 of your textbook to help you. Draw the layers onto your styrofoam ball, then make flags for each layer that explains the name, depth, temperature, and what the layer is made of.  Attach the flags to toothpicks and stick them into the layer they describe.  On Tuesday we will show off our models, then have a quiz where you will have to match the names of layers to their descriptions.

Homework Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

I hope you all had a great time on today's field trip!  Your homework tonight is to complete the reflection assignment I handed out at the end of the day.  Here are the questions:


Komagata Maru Fieldtrip Reflection
Please answer the following questions in full sentences:
1.   What new information about the Komagata Maru incident did you learn on today’s fieldtrip?
2.      Ask someone you know about their experience immigrating to Canada.  What are the similarities/differences between their experience and the experience of the people on board the Komagata Maru?
3.      Use the information from question 3 to make an inference (educated guess) about the changes s in Canada’s immigration policies over the last 100 years.
4.      What questions do you still have about the Komagata Maru incident?


Make sure last night's homework is completed as well, I still do not have some of your yearbook write-ups e-mailed to me.  You will need to hand in your math review questions tomorrow (page 278 questions 1-2, and page 293 questions 1-2)

You MUST hand in your Komagata Maru permission form tomorrow - the fieldtrip is on Thursday

We will not be here on Thursday so you do not need to bring pizza money
